With this ArchiCAD Extension properly installed, you can save 3D models of your projects in the industry standard DXF format.
The word "generic" means that the data structure is kept as simple as possible.
This simple format is important because many applications which are supposed to read DXF documents have problems with complicated layer and block structures. This limited complexity, however, poses no problem for most programs to open.
We recommend using this DXF format if the more complex documents saved by the "DXF 3D/AutoCAD Out" extension cannot be opened with your target application.
The document you save will include the following information:
• 3D model geometry:
All surfaces.
All edges.
• Layers:
Two layers will be created, one for all of the surfaces, the other for all of the edges.
DXF Blocks, ArchiCAD surface materials, light sources and 3D projection data are NOT included.
• With the 3D window at the front, choose Save as… from the File menu.
• In the pop-up menu, choose the DXF/Generic document format, and click the Save button.
• After clicking Save, but before the saving process actually begins, the following dialog box will appear. Here you can configure the resulting document.
The options are as follows:
• Drawing Unit
In this field, you can define the distance in the ArchiCAD project that will be translated into one DXF drawing unit. As ArchiCAD works internally with metric data, setting the DXF unit to 1 meter (=1000 mm) will result in a 1:1 model in DXF.
• Match colors to AutoCAD color table
AutoCAD works with a 256 color standard color table with fixed position black, red, blue etc. colors.
Check this box to have ArchiCAD compare each edge pencolor and surface material to the AutoCAD color table. Each edge and surface will refer to the AutoCAD color having the closest resemblance to it. This way, shaded images will look as close to ArchiCAD shadings as possible.
Uncheck this box to keep the pen and material index numbers of the ArchiCAD document intact.
• Write binary DXF
DXF text files are large, but they can be edited with text processing techniques. Binary DXF files are compact, but ineditable as text files. They can be opened in modeling programs only.
